My latest post for Guideposts’ “Love Dem Cats” blog…starring Pearl and Catillac. A cardboard box on its way to the recycling bin has caused a war to erupt in my living room. Check it out….
1. I will stop trying to get my husband to watch The Big Bang Theory. He doesn’t like it. He’s never going to like it. For him, Sheldon’s annoying-ness will always outweigh the appeal of the hot blonde girl. Sad but true.
2. I will delete the bad pictures. The digital SLR camera was a major step forward technology-wise, but shooting in “burst” mode means there are 10,650 versions of each shot, and they can’t all be keepers. Besides, I am never going to need all those shots of my cat’s butt exiting the frame as I yell, “Kitty! Stay!”
3. I will install that new hard drive. I’m tired of deleting stuff to save those final 5 gigabytes. It’s like trying to decide what to put back when you don’t have enough cash at the supermarket checkout. Speaking of which…
4. I will start carrying cash. A little. Like, $20. And not a $20 bill, either – what Scott Adams used to call “yuppie food stamps” — but like a 10, and a 5, and some ones. Because using a debit card for a $2 purchase is just stupid, and breaking a $20 for a $2 purchase is just annoying.
5. I will give up trying to access wi-fi from moving vehicles. Trains, airport buses, all places I’d like to be the cool Mac Guy with the bottomless battery and the portable wireless signal. I’m not him.
6. I will hit “ignore” instead of trying to maintain FarmTown, Farmville, FarmLife, FarmWorld, FarmUniverse, FarmAcademy, and FarmParty. (These aren’t all real games. Just using hyperbole to make the point that there are a lot of freakin’ farm apps out there, and no one needs to be playing all of them. Okay, social gaming developers?)
7. I will quit trying to text. I’m too old.
8. I will watch a Star Trek movie. No, I’ve never seen one. Yes, I’m serious. The extent of my Star Trek knowledge involves “The Trouble with Tribbles,” and that footage was from a 1980s commercial for Star Trek commemorative plates from the Franklin Mint. It’s been the sum total of all my Star Trek knowledge ever since. (UPDATE: Since drafting this post, I have seen the new Star Trek movie. It was freakin’ awesome. I now understand why Sheldon on Big Bang Theory feels the way he does about Leonard Nimoy.)
9. I will learn Flash. I think it’s time.
10. I will fill the ice cube trays. That’s not really a geek thing, just a problem I have, as anyone who’s ever drunk warm Coke at my house will tell you. We can’t even give you a glass of ice to pour it over, because I’m too lazy to fill the trays, and that’s just sad.
